Turmeric Paste!
We all know the benefits of Tumeric by now - it decreases inflammation, its a powerful antioxidant, improves vascular function, can help boost memory, and many other benefits. If it works so well for us, can we give it to our dogs? YES! The benefits are essentially the same, which is great. Arthritis, dementia, cancer, and other chronic illnesses can benefit from some turmeric.
But, how do we get them to eat it if they don't drink turmeric lattes?? Mixing it with some coconut oil and creating a paste can be enticing for our furry friends. If you don’t want to cook, then Thorne has a great pet supplement called CurcuVet that is found online and on Amazon!
See the Golden Paste Recipe below:
Golden Paste Recipe
1/2 Cup Organic Tumeric Powder
1 to 1.5 Cups Water
1.5 Teaspoons Ground Pepper
1/4 Cup Organic Cold Pressed Coconut Oil
Mix the Tumeric with 1 cup water in a sauce pan. Stir on medium heat for about 8-10 minutes, until the mixture is thickened. If too thick, then add up to 1/2 cup water more, but if too watery then increase Tumeric. Add in the ground pepper and coconut oil until thoroughly mixed together. Once cooled, fill a container and place in your fridge for up to two weeks. You can also place the mixture in small ice cube trays to freeze for up to six months.
For small dogs, give 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon once a day, medium dogs 1/2 to 1 teaspoon one to two times a day, and large dogs can get 1 to 2 teaspoons one to two times day. Start with a small dose, and increase slowly to make sure your dog doesn't get an upset stomach.
